If you have gone on a whale watching tour with 150 people on a huge boat, this is not that kind of thing. This is an upclose and personal unique tour with only a very few people involved. It is peaceful and calm. Going on an Out to Sea Expedition was an amazing way to experience the real feel of Alaska. Delaney and Eric were excellent hosts. Delaney has a wealth of knowledge about local wildlife and tons of interesting facts. Eric was an expert navigator and an expert spotter. He handled changing water conditions well and did a great job keeping everyone safe. I felt super comfortable and welcomed. I am "plus size" (US 24) and was able to easily find clothes there and get in and out of the boat easily and without getting wet. Also, the boat didn't move or seemed very stable even if you moved or shifted your weight, the boat didn't rock. Highly recommend!!!

This was the most awesome whale watching and wildlife tour I have ever experienced! Delaney and Eric were very knowledgeable and so fun to chat with. They were great at spotting wildlife including eagles nesting in the tops of trees The boat had me nervous at first, but turned out to be the reason we had such a great time. We got to watch and follow a feeding whale for a good amount of time from about a close to a whale as I'd ever hope to be. The starfish and anemones were an unexpected delight! And the "potato birds" were fun to learn about. Thanks for a great time!!

We recently took an ocean wildlife tour with Eric & Delaney. They were fantastic guides and shared lots of local knowledge. We highly recommend Out to Sea Expedition Company. During our tour we saw eagles, seals, a variety of birds and sea life. We even saw a pod of Orca’s.

We went on a birding charter with these guys and loved it! Eric and Delaney are super friendly and we appreciated them being able to get us in on a flexible, custom outing. We zipped around and saw and photographed lots of birds! Phalaropes, murres, murrelets, cormorants, gulls, and even a Rhinoceros Auklet! It was awesome. We also came across a bunch of cute harbor seals and an active group of seal lions. It was a great time! I 10/10 recommend these guys!

We had a great time on our Out to Sea harvest tour! Captain Eric managed the boat flawlessly for a comfortable and interesting ride. Delaney pointed out the sights along the way and led the harvest efforts on shore. They provided everything we needed to be safe, comfortable and gather our findings, including an ingeniously designed harvest bag! I was a little concerned about riding in a Zodiac, but Out to Sea makes sure everyone is appropriately outfitted, so I was comfortable the whole time. Immersion into the natural beauty of Alaska from a position so close to the water made it a truly unique experience and a wonderful way to capture the adventurous spirit of rugged and picturesque Southeast Alaska.

Experience of a Lifetime This expedition was one of the highlights of our trip. The wind was chilly, the ocean dark and choppy and we had the time of our lives! Delaney and Eric were the perfect guides and I personally was amazed by their extensive knowledge of the local wildlife. We were shocked and delighted when a whale jumped up to feed mere yards from our boat. We would take this tour again and again because I am sure that the experience is different every time.

Excellent zodiak tour for cruise ship visitors! We arrived via cruise ship and booked this excursion ourselves for our Ketchikan stop. Soon after booking Delaney took the time to explain that our ship would be pulling in at Ward Cove (vs parking in Ketchikan as the ships have in the past) and explained how we would get to town and how to find them for our tour. MUCH better communication than the cruise company and we were so grateful! They even adjusted the start time to allow us time to get there. The tour itself was amazing! There were only 4 of us, plus Delaney and Eric, and it was nice to have such a small group. We saw several bubble net feeding humpback whales. Eric clearly had extensive knowledge of their behavior as he was able to put us in position to see them come up over and over. They were awesome. We also saw seals, eagles and other marine wildlife. Delaney also explained several animal behaviors and clearly had significant knowledge of the wildlife. Both Delaney and Eric were a pleasure to spend our day with and we'll absolutely look them up when we come back to Ketchikan!

Awesome experience! The tour was awesome - one of our favorite parts of the trip to Alaska. It was just our family (one group) on the tour: We were 4 people ranging from 15 to 73 years old - everyone had a great time! The guides were very nice and knowledgeable. We had a really interesting conversation, and learned a lot about Ketchikan, and Alaska in general. During our tour we spotted a whale, and we were even able to get relatively close to it. We also spotted other wildlife: Different bird species, salmon, and deer. The guides also had a thermos with some hot drinks (tea, hot chocolate), and snack :-)

A Great on Water Experience We had an amazing zodiac tour with Delaney and Eric., the owners of the company. They provided all of the waterproof clothing, boots, dry bags, caps, even binoculars so we were warm enough and very comfortable. Both of them are very knowledgeable and good communicators. We learned a lot about this area of Alaska, the fishing industry, and saw whales, bald eagles, sea otters, and a sea lion along with cormorants and murres. along with gorgeous scenery.. They also provided snacks and hot drinks as energy boosters. It was a great activity during our stay.

Beautiful excursion! Eric and Delaney do a great job! Their shop has all kinds of things for outdoor adventures in addition to running a great expedition. They suited us up with great rain gear and life Jackets before taking out family out. They gave us a lot of information about the area and sea creatures. They took us to gear spots to see eagles, sea-life in the intertidal zone and through the islands. Of course we all hoped to see an orca or a whale. However I sincerely loved what we were doing and taking in the incredible area, feeling blessed to be soaking in SE Alaska. We watched a fishing boat bring up its haul of salmon. Minutes later we were tested to a humpback popping up from the sea as it gulped down a meal. We stuck around watching this amazing creature eat several more meal as Delaney explained to us what was happening and giving us info about whales. Eventually the whale showed us their tale and Delaney told us this whale is know by Phoenix. Phoenix moved on and we headed over to an area where seals where basking in the sun. As we headed back to the marina, Delaney and Eric gave us some more info about the things we were going past on shore. They provided hot chocolate and coffee on the boat as well. Our 3 kids ( middle and elementary) enjoyed it very much and we felt safe. We were fortunate to have a sunny day. Most likely you will have some drizzle so dress more warmly than you do on land bc it will be colder out on the water. Enjoy and know you are in good hands!

A Great Tour! We had a fantastic time on our tour! We booked them at the last minute, and only one additional family were with us. Wildlife cannot be counted on to arrive on demand, and we knew that before going on the tour. The tour operators are so respectful of the wildlife that we did get to see. We saw Bald Eagles nesting, Seals, Star Fish and Sea Anemones. We did find a Humpback Whale and Calf and stayed at a respectful distance. It is a thrill to see the beautiful landscape and nature at work! I would highly recommend this tour! Just a side note for those with bad backs…the Zodiac boat is a little rough on the body. Sit towards the back of the boat because the front of the boat put extra pressure on my spine. TIP - Make sure you bring a great pair of binoculars to Alaska. They are worth every penny!

Blew my mind - do not miss this one! This tour was AMAZING. I was the only one booked, and was worried that the tour would be cancelled, but they assured me that they don't currently have minimums (so if you're a solo traveler like me, this is somewhere that will have you!) and the tour would go on as scheduled as long as the weather cooperated, and boy, did it ever! I was treated to a sunny day, not too warm and not too cold, perfect for exploring the narrows in the zodiac. Eric and Delaney (who both wore masks the entire time) are both very knowledgeable about the Southeastern Alaska area, and were able to answer every question I had with a ton of detail and background. They know so much about the culture and industry of Ketchikan, being long time residents, as well as the botany/zoology, which is a major interest of mine. We saw so many harbor seals, probably at least a half dozen bald eagles, some small birds in the puffin family (I wish I could remember their names) and sea stars and anemones and urchins. We also saw a humpback whale, who is known to the locals as Phoenix (my airbnb host was so excited when she found out that I'd seen Phoenix). This is a small (yes I was by myself, but it's a max of six people) and intimate experience that I'd recommend to absolutely everyone and I already have recommended it to a few people I've met in town. Thank you so so much Eric and Delaney for one of the most fun experiences I've had in over 20 years of traveling. Everyone, do yourselves a favor and book with Out to Sea Expedition Company!

Best way to explore while in Ketchikan! Book now!! This was AMAZING! Delaney and Eric are both knowledgable, kind, and genuine. They live in Ketchikan and know a lot about the area which was really interesting. Ketchikan is beautiful so the chance to see it on this wilderness expedition was very cool! They provide gear to keep you dry in case it is raining. We were fortunate enough to see whales, eagles, fish jumping out of the water, and seal. The scenery alone is worth booking this! We were only in town for the day as we were in Ketchikan on a cruise stop, and this was the best choice we made! Would HIGHLY recommend and give this a 10 out of 10!!

Intimate view of Alaskan Sea Life We had an amazing time! We saw a humpback whale bubble feeding, a Dall’s porpoise and several other creatures in their own element. The raft makes the trip feel more intimate and the owners are kind, knowledgeable, and fascistic guides! Great trip!
